17th March 2017: Regen day!

Porto fans across the world await news on any promising youngsters to have come through the Porto academy. Several fans have wondered if there will be another Ruben Neves this year. Indeed, for our series to be a success we need to be able to produce decent regens in order to ensure our first-team can progress in the years to come.

Let’s get straight into it, how good were our regens of 2017?

The Regens

In line with the requirements of our homegrown challenge we have released four trialists who did not meet our homegrown criteria.

We are left with an assortment of regens, and just two of which look good enough to progress in this series.

  • Gil Ferraz

Gil Ferraz is a left-footed winger with good potential. He has scope to become a very pacey winger with good pace already for his age. He’ll need to be tutored due to his average determination.

  • Hugo Assunção

Hugo Assuncao is the second player we will look at in this part. He is a striker with the preferred role of target man and at the age of 16 he is already 193cm tall. He, too, will require tutoring to improve his determination.

Under 19’s

Our Under 19’s are leading the way in their league. 16 year old Leandro Campos is leading our goalscoring charts with 13 goals, while Miguel Magalhaes has the most assists (13) and 11 goals to his name.

B-Team

b-league

Our B-team trail Portimonense by one point in the Second division of Portugal. Striker Rui Pedro is tied for top goalscorer with Ruben Macedo, both on 10. Macedo is likely to be moving up to the first team soon due to his impressive performances in the B-team.

First Team

In the Primeira Division we’ve resigned ourselves to a battle for third place. Both Sporting and Benfica are too far ahead of us at this stage and we have been too inconsistent.

Vit. Setubal are performing very well in the league and are providing a stern test for us.

We have been knocked out of the Europa League against Ajax, despite an impressive performance against Inter Milan in the round before.
